We are hearing more and more people argue that America should move away from capitalism and toward socialism or even communism. I believe the real problem is that too many people are no longer being taught history or basic economics.
As parents and grandparents, we have a responsibility to understand history and teach it to the next generation. The freedoms we enjoy today were not guaranteed—they were earned and preserved by those who came before us. If we fail to learn from history, we risk repeating it.
If you don’t understand what’s happening, don’t rely on headlines or social media. Read history. Study the rise and fall of civilizations. Learn what happened when governments gained more control over people’s lives and economies. That knowledge may be one of the greatest gifts you can give your children and grandchildren.
I’ve always believed it’s better to judge an economic system by its results than by its promises.
