Something crazy: I've been buying this sugar for years. I live in an area where we have Hummingbirds, finches, woodpeckers and other birds year-round. The number of visitors slows down in the winter, but I usually do a lot of baking around the holidays, so I still use a lot of sugar. This year I did not, so I'm not sure when I purchased the previous bag I'd been using. However, I recently needed to buy a new bag. I made a batch of the "juice" with the new sugar, and filled my 3 hummingbird feeders up last week. Not a single bird, of any kind, would even touch them! My yard is usually bustling with activity.
