Not getting what you want.

The most important conversations you will ever have are the ones you will have with yourself during your lifetime. Some of us will look at our face in the mirror, and bold-face, outright lie to ourselves. Knowing what we are trying to convince ourselves of is not true. But we change the story. We curtail the narrative to fit what we want in life. Does it work? No, it does not. We hit reality every morning, again and again, and in turn, lie to our face again and again. There are really only two great tragedies in life. One is not getting what you think you want, and the other is getting it. In life, we are all going to face a lot of disappointments. You may not get that dream job you always wanted, but are you going to give up trying to get it? We are not always going to get the guy or the girl we think we wanted at the time, but are we going to stop looking for love? No. Sometimes, what we want is not enough. We must realize that we need to do our part as well. We have to make it happen as well. Like during those days when you are questioning yourself on whether or not you may have what it takes, know in your heart that you do. God gave that to you already. What you might rate as an absolute disaster, God may rate as a pimple-level problem that will pass. He views your life the way you view a movie after you have read the book. When something bad happens, you feel the air sucked out of the theater. Everyone else is gasping at the crisis on the screen. But not you. Why? Because you have read the book already. You know how the good guy gets out of the tight spot in the end. God views your life with that same confidence. He has not only read your story, He wrote it. He knows how you get out in the end. You would as well if you read His love story that He wrote for all of us. Look, you are going to find that it is not going to get easier, but you will get stronger. And as you get stronger, you will find that you can handle more and more. Maybe that is why God does not give you what you desire at first. He is making you stronger so you can handle the abundance He is going to give you instead. Whatever it is, be grateful for it, and enjoy the time it takes to get there. You can never get that back.
