She is often called the loneliest whale in the world.
Since her discovery in 1992, she has been observed by scientists – yet she remains an enigma. Unlike other whales, she lives alone, without a family, without a group, without ever having had a companion.
She traverses the endless expanse of the ocean, singing her song, calling for proximity – but no one answers. Her fate is shaped by one peculiarity: her voice is unique. While other whales communicate with each other in the range of 12 to 25 hertz, her call resonates at 52 hertz – too high to be heard by conspecifics.
And so her song goes unheard. Her calls fade into the depths, unanswered, undivided.
But she doesn't give up.
Despite the silence, despite the loneliness – she sings on.
Perhaps because hope is stronger than despair. Perhaps because she simply cannot do otherwise.
A silent appeal to the world – and a moving symbol of what it means to want to be heard.
