Not a single species on this planet was designed to survive on carbohydrates. Not one. Not even the so-called “plant eaters”. Every animal, whether carnivore, omnivore, or herbivore, ultimately runs on fat, not carbs.
Even the vegetarian animals don’t live off the sugars or starches in plants. The plants they eat are low-carb, fibrous, and indigestible primarily to us. The only reason cows, deer, and gorillas can survive on them is because they have specialized digestive systems that ferment fiber into short-chain fatty acids—a form of fat—which is where their real energy comes from.
Cows don’t live off carbs. Gorillas don’t live off carbs (they even re-eat their own feces to absorb more fat from bacterial fermentation). Bears gorge on berries only seasonally, then return to a diet of fat and protein. Whales live off fat and protein from plankton. Even species that eat carbs occasionally never rely on them as their primary energy source.
Humans are no different. The fruits and vegetables we see in stores today—sweet, soft, colorful, high in sugar—are human inventions. They didn’t exist in nature. Ancient plants and fruits were small, fibrous, bitter, and very low in starch or sugar. You couldn’t have survived off them, not year-round and not in most climates.
So the entire idea of a carb-based diet is a modern, man-made creation. Unlike with fat & protein, there’s no such thing as as an essential carbohydrate. We’ve never needed them to thrive and we still donmt now. Every animal on Earth, including us, was designed to run on fat and protein—the original fuel of life.
