The New Mexico legislature has just introduced a joint resolution allowing NM counties to secede from the State.

The NM side of the Permian Basin is strangled by aggressive State regulations, and the region encompasses Eddy, Lea, and Chaves Counties, where voters are overwhelmingly conservative Republicans, who are underrepresented in one of the most solidly blue States in the union.
Should Republicans sweep the Democrats into the dustbin in Texas this November, there is no reason why the Governor's Office of State and Federal Relations should not pursue negotiations for the annexation and reorganization of the lands making up Eddy, Lea, and Chaves counties to the State of Texas.
