In the aftermath of January 6th, John Cornyn sat across from FBI Director Chris Wray and compared the events of that day to 9/11. Not as hyperbole. As a framework for 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
He rattled off the labels applied to J6 attendees without pushback: 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀. The list goes on and on, he said.
Then he asked Wray directly: are the current laws adequate to deal with this threat? Nudging the FBI Director toward the idea that new tools were needed to prosecute American citizens who walked into the Capitol.
This is the same John Cornyn who is now blocking the talking filibuster that would pass the SAVE Act — the bill Trump is demanding immediately.
He weaponized the FBI against MAGA five years ago. Today, he's strangling MAGA legislation in the Senate. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻.
Texas has a runoff coming. The people Cornyn called domestic terrorists and white supremacists are voters. They have long memories.
