Well, today is Mandy Thursday. During the Traditional Latin Mass on Maundy Thursday, the liturgy commemorates the institution of the Eucharist, the institution of the priesthood, and Jesus's commandment to love one another (mandatum novum). The Mass includes the singing of the Gloria, after which bells are silenced and the organ stops playing until the Easter Vigil.
Key ceremonial elements observed during the service include:
Washing of the Feet: A ceremonial rite where the priest washes the feet of twelve men (representing the Apostles) to enact Christ's example of humble service.
Procession to the Altar of Repose: After the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession to a side altar, where it remains "entombed" for adoration until Good Friday.
Stripping of the Altars: Following the procession, all altar decorations, candles, and symbols of Christ's presence are removed to signify the onset of His Passion and arrest.
