This cartoon is exactly right, and it hits because almost everyone has lived some version of it.
A lot of people have been hurt by religious people. They have seen hypocrisy.
They have seen judgment without grace.
They have seen people quote Scripture on Sunday, then treat others terribly on Monday.
Some have been pushed away by arrogance, politics, pride, gossip, or cruelty while wearing church clothes.
That pain is real.
But the answer is not to reject Jesus because people failed to represent Him well. The answer is to look past men's failures and look directly at Christ.
Jesus knew exactly what it meant to be betrayed by religious people.
He was mocked by them. He was falsely accused by them. He was handed over by them.
The very people who should have recognized Him were often the ones trying hardest to destroy Him.
And still, He did not stop loving. He did not stop forgiving. He did not stop calling sinners home.
That is the difference.
