Long before Texas had its name, the Caddo Nation had already built a sophisticated civilization across the deep piney woods and cypress swamps of East Texas, with roots stretching back more than a thousand years before any European ever set foot in the region. 🌲🛶⭐ Their story represents one of the oldest and most culturally significant chapters in all of Texas history, and it deserves far more attention than it typically receives.
The Caddo developed an agricultural society built around permanent villages, sophisticated mound building, and an extensive trade network that connected them with other Native nations across a remarkably wide swath of the continent. Caddo communities cultivated corn, beans, and squash in the fertile river bottoms of East Texas, supplementing farming with hunting and fishing throughout the region's abundant cypress swamps and pine forests. Their political and social organization was sophisticated enough that early Spanish and French explorers who encountered the Caddo in the late 1600s and early 1700s described organized confederacies with established leadership structures, ceremonial centers, and complex diplomatic relationships with neighboring tribes. The very name Texas is believed by many historians to derive from a Caddo word, tejas or teyshas, meaning "friends" or "allies," used by Spanish explorers to describe the Caddo people they encountered, suggesting that the entire state may carry a name rooted directly in the Caddo language and identity.
Disease introduced by European contact devastated Caddo populations dramatically in the centuries following first contact, and the surviving Caddo Nation was eventually relocated to present-day Oklahoma in the nineteenth century, where their descendants maintain their cultural heritage and tribal government today. Understanding the Caddo origin of the state's very name is an essential piece of telling Texas history honestly and completely. Drop a comment if this is the first time you have heard this connection. And follow for more of the real, unfiltered history of Texas. 🤠⭐

The Menger Hotel in San Antonio has been welcoming guests since 1859, sitting directly across the street from the Alamo, and its walls have witnessed an almost unbelievable cross section of Texas and American history over more than 165 years of continuous operation. 🏨⭐🔥 Few buildings in the entire state carry this much accumulated history within a single structure.
The hotel was built by William Menger, a German immigrant brewer, originally as an extension of his successful brewery business, and it quickly became the social and political center of San Antonio, hosting figures ranging from Civil War generals to U.S. presidents over the decades that followed. Theodore Roosevelt reportedly recruited and organized his famous Rough Riders volunteer cavalry unit partly within the hotel's bar in 1898, before departing for the Spanish American War, a story the hotel still proudly tells today. The Menger has hosted a genuinely remarkable list of historical figures over the years, ...

EVENING VIEW FROM THE RIDGE:
THE ULTIMATE TRUMP CARD — PLAN B
President Trump just went completely nuclear behind closed doors and in public, ripping into Senate Majority Leader John Thune and demanding he grow a spine, be a leader, and GET THE VOTES for the SAVE America Act.
No more excuses and no more RINO foot-dragging. This is the common-sense election integrity bill that slams the door on non-citizen voting, demands strict proof of citizenship, and requires real voter ID—something polls show the vast majority of Americans overwhelmingly support.
House Republicans already delivered their part, but Senate Republicans, led by Thune, keep whining about the filibuster and claiming they do not have enough votes.
They hold the majority; they could nuke the filibuster and force a real debate right now. Instead, they offer watered-down garbage like ballot harvesting tweaks while watching the country get sold out again by a cheating system.
This is not leadership—this is cowardice from a ...
