This single coordinated action spans record participation from state Medicaid Fraud Control Units and includes unprecedented international cooperation that brought fugitives back from overseas to face American justice.
What makes this different from past announcements is the depth of the rot it exposes and the precision of the response. These were not isolated mistakes. They were organized schemes that targeted the most vulnerable among us.
Some involved unnecessary procedures on elderly patients in hospice care. Others preyed on fear, like cardiovascular testing schemes that cleared student athletes to play when their hearts showed dangerous abnormalities, with one young athlete later dying from complications that went unaddressed.
International networks operating from abroad funneled billions through telemedicine fraud, fake braces, and unnecessary catheters, all billed to U.S. taxpayers. Dr. Mehmet Oz has been clear for months that roughly one hundred billion dollars is stolen from Medicare and Medicaid every single year.
Stopping even a meaningful portion of that theft would double the life of the Medicare Trust Fund. This is not abstract accounting. This is money meant for the care of our parents and grandparents that was instead funneled into luxury and criminal networks.
