THIS is exactly why I check viral posts before sharing them.
A post going around Facebook claims that “Oklahoma Superintendent Dr. Charles Bradley” suspended 122 students for protesting ICE.
Here’s the problem: there is no Oklahoma State Superintendent Dr. Charles Bradley. Oklahoma’s State Superintendent is Lindel Fields. (Welcome to Oklahoma’s Official Web Site⁠)
Now, the 122 students part IS true. Mustang Public Schools gave 122 students in-school suspensions after they walked out of class during an anti-ICE protest. The district says the discipline was for unexcused absences/leaving class after being told to remain, not because of the political viewpoint they expressed. (Oklahoma Voice⁠)
So somebody took a real event, attached a false name and title, removed important context, slapped “BREAKING” on it, and thousands of people started reacting.
And THIS is how misinformation spreads.

She would not let it go. In the morning she pressed the men to ride out and look, and...

That's right — and the overcrowding story started before it even opened.
Terrell was Texas' answer to an overloaded system. In the late 19th century, the state's only psychiatric facility was in Austin, so eligible patients across Texas were often confined to county jails and poorhouses, both places incapable of treating the mentally ill.
In 1881, State Rep. John S. Wood introduced a bill for a branch in North Texas. On Feb 16, 1883, the 18th Texas Legislature passed it, specifying the new institution be somewhere north of the Texas and Pacific Railway. A 672.65-acre site a mile northeast of Terrell was selected.
It opened July 14, 1885 as the North Texas Lunatic Asylum. The original building was built according to the Kirkbride Plan — the linear, bat-wing design that was supposed to give patients light and air.
