IT’S OFFICIAL: Ranchers Can Process Their Own Food
President Trump just signed an executive order that could change how American beef gets from the ranch to your table.
His words:
“Our ranchers will be able to do their OWN food processing.”
“Our ranchers will be MORE sanitary than those plants.”
“It’s gonna be a GREAT thing.”
For years, four major corporations have dominated U.S. meat processing under the current federal inspection system:
1. Tyson Foods
2. Cargill
3. JBS
4. National Beef
Together they control about 85% of the market. That concentration has meant fewer buyers, longer hauls, thinner margins, and less control for independent ranchers who raise the cattle.
This order is meant to cut red tape, expand small and regional processing, and give producers a real path to process and sell more of their own meat. If it works, ranchers keep more of the dollar they earned, families get more local options, and the food supply depends less on a handful of giant plants.
Food safety still matters. The administration says inspections and standards stay in place. The claim is simple: well-run ranches can meet those standards — and many already live by them.
This is about competition, local food, and who controls the middle of America’s food chain.
