Imagine troops cut off in the middle of the Pacific with no runway and no road in, and within about an hour, tons of supplies come streaking down from space and land right beside them, delivered not by plane or ship, but by rocket. That is the idea behind Rocket Cargo, a US Air Force program that just passed a major milestone.
On October 20, riding on a SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral, a reentry capsule carried pods of real mission gear, batteries, a water desalinator, and survival and medical supplies, while sensors measured what the cargo endured on the way to space and back. The Air Force called it a success. The long-term goal: deliver tens of tons anywhere on Earth in roughly an hour. A cargo plane can carry a similar load, but it needs a runway, friendly airspace, and hours or days. A rocket needs none of that. It just goes up, over, and straight down to the target.
It sounds like science fiction. The Air Force is trying to make it a delivery service.

SpaceX has received approval to deploy up to 15,000 satellites designed to connect directly to mobile phones. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the next-generation satellite network in October 2026, marking a major step toward expanding mobile connectivity from space.
The technology aims to connect compatible phones directly to satellites, helping provide coverage in places where traditional cell towers are unavailable. This could make it easier to stay connected in remote areas, rural communities, and locations with limited cellular coverage.
Unlike traditional satellite internet, which typically requires a dedicated dish, direct-to-device technology is designed to communicate directly with mobile devices. SpaceX plans to use its Starlink Mobile network to expand connectivity, with future capabilities including voice and data services.
However, approval does not mean all 15,000 satellites are already in orbit or that full service is available everywhere. ...
