Senator John Thune led the charge in sending all Senators on another vacation - this one for a month - without passing the SAVE Act. Senator Mike Lee pulled an all-nighter and has engaged in a months-long fight to secure elections.
However, Thune, who refused to stay in Washington, tried to bypass the roll-call vote to stay in DC, then led the charge on a voice vote so the Senators who voted to go on vacation wouldn't be identified.
Lee and a group of colleagues voiced “no,” but the ayes carried it, and the chamber adjourned for about five-weeks - no recorded roll-call vote, so no official tally of who voted to leave.
In the predawn hours, after an all-night session, the Senate passed a continuing resolution funding the government through early December and confirmed Todd Blanche as attorney general.
Republicans also forced a cloture vote on Sen. Jon Husted’s (R-OH) stripped-down federal photo-ID bill for federal elections.
That measure failed 52-46.
All 52 yes votes came from Republicans. All 46 no votes came from Democrats plus Independents Angus King (ME) and Bernie Sanders (VT).
Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Peter Welch (D-VT) did not vote. Sixty votes were required.
After that defeat, the chamber moved to adjourn. Lee had spent the night pressing to keep the Senate in session until the full SAVE Act passed. He and allies, including Rick Scott (R-FL) and others, had publicly pledged to object to recess without it. The motion to adjourn was adopted; the Senate returned September 14.
Over 85% of Americans support Voter ID - including over 74% of Democrats. If these Senators are not doing the will of the American people, it's time to replace them and send people to Washington, DC who will.
They add, it's safe to say, if a Senator was not one of the 20 that voiced support for staying in session - then they voted to go on vacation and should be replaced.
Before the Senate went on vacation, Senator John Thune made sure that pro forma sessions would continue until mid-September - denying President Trump the opportunity for recess appointments.
Thune must be immediately removed as majority leader and replaced by Mike Lee or Ted Cruz. And Thune's supporters should be primaried and replaced with true conservative Republican candidates in 2028.

★ OFFICIAL 2026 DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM
(As selected by the voters who actually show up) 🙄
After a full year of primaries, the pattern is clear.
👉 The progressive wing keeps winning.
👉 And their platforms keep getting more creative.
Here’s the current greatest-hits list of what the winning side is running on:
• Abolish ICE
👉 (Who needs border enforcement when feelings are involved?)
• Abolish the border entirely
👉 (Because lines on a map are just colonial violence, apparently)
• Abolish the police and prisons
👉 (Crime is a social construct. Have you tried yoga?)
• Medicare for All

• Four-day work week with no cut in pay
